ABOUT THE CLIENT:
Yabby Lake International Pty Ltd was the client for this winery wastewater treatment project in Tuerong, Victoria.
The project involved the development of a dedicated wastewater treatment system for winery wastewater, incorporating biological treatment, final polishing and ozone treatment, with treated water intended for irrigation or reuse.
CHALLENGE: TREATING WINERY WASTEWATER FOR IRRIGATION OR REUSE
The Yabby Lake Winery project required a dedicated treatment system for winery wastewater, with the treated water intended for irrigation or reuse. The treatment process needed to incorporate biological treatment followed by additional polishing and ozone treatment. The system also needed to provide controlled transfer and monitoring of the treated water through the treatment process.
Aquasol was engaged to provide the complete project, covering the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the wastewater treatment system.

SOLUTION: SBR BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT WITH OZONE POLISHING
Aquasol designed, supplied, installed and commissioned a winery wastewater treatment system centred around a 190,000 L SBR Biological Aeration Tank. The Sequential Batch Reactor provided the main biological treatment stage, incorporating aeration and controlled pumping as part of the treatment sequence. Following the SBR stage, treated water was transferred to a 2,000 L existing Final Polishing Tank before passing through the final polishing equipment.
The treatment system incorporated:
Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR)
190,000 L biological aeration tank
Aeration blower
Final polishing tank
Ozone treatment
Filtration
pH/TDS monitoring
Flow measurement
Automated pumping and level control
The schematic identifies the final treated water as being directed to irrigation or reuse, with specified treated-water targets of BOD <20 mg/L, SS <10 mg/L, P <10 mg/L and N <10 mg/L.
The system was delivered as a complete project, with Aquasol responsible for design, supply, installation and commissioning.
RESULTS: INTEGRATED WINERY WASTEWATER TREATMENT FOR REUSE
Aquasol delivered a dedicated wastewater treatment system for Yabby Lake Winery incorporating biological treatment, final polishing, ozone treatment and filtration.
The completed system incorporated a 190,000 L SBR biological aeration tank and a 2,000 L existing final polishing tank, with treated water directed for irrigation or reuse.
The project brought together the treatment equipment, pumping, monitoring and control components into an integrated winery wastewater treatment system, delivered by Aquasol from design through to installation and commissioning.
