Rodrigues Island, Mauritius | 2013–2015 | Seawater Desalination & Potable Water Treatment

Service Capacity: 1 ML/day per desalination plant

Treatment System: Multiple Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants across five sites

Treatment Process: Seawater Reverse Osmosis | Potable Water Treatment

THE CHALLENGE

The Rodrigues Island public water supply scheme required multiple seawater desalination plants to provide treated water across five sites on the island.

THE SOLUTION

Aquasol designed, manufactured and supplied five 1 ML/day seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants, including process design, fabrication, high-pressure manifolds and plant layouts.

THE RESULTS

The project delivered five seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants with a combined designed capacity of 5 ML/day for the Rodrigues Island public water supply scheme.

ABOUT THE CLIENT:

Ocean Five Ltd, in a joint venture with Hydro Plumbing Co. Ltd, was the client for this multi-site desalination project on Rodrigues Island, Mauritius.

The project formed part of a public water supply scheme, involving the design, manufacture and supply of multiple seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants across five sites.

CHALLENGE: MULTIPLE DESALINATION SITES FOR PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY

The Rodrigues Island public water supply scheme required multiple seawater desalination plants rather than a single centralised treatment facility.

The project involved five separate desalination sites: Caverne Bouteille, Pointe Venus, Bay Malgache, Point Cotton and Baie Lascars. Each requiring a dedicated plant with a designed capacity of 1 ML/day.

Delivering a consistent desalination solution across multiple locations also required consideration of the site infrastructure and physical requirements at each plant location. The project therefore required coordinated process design, plant layouts, fabrication and engineering to support the different installation sites.

SOLUTION: FIVE SEAWATER REVERSE OSMOSIS DESALINATION PLANTS

Aquasol designed, manufactured and supplied five seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants, each with a designed capacity of 1 ML/day.

The drawing package covered:

  • Caverne Bouteille

  • Pointe Venus

  • Bay Malgache

  • Point Cotton

  • Baie Lascars

The technical scope extended beyond the RO treatment process itself. Aquasol's work included process design, fabrication, high-pressure manifolds and plant layouts, together with the project engineering and documentation required for delivery.

Shipment documentation and progress claims were also included within the project scope.

By developing five plants around the same core seawater reverse osmosis treatment approach, the project provided a coordinated solution across the Rodrigues Island public water supply scheme while allowing each plant to be delivered to its respective site.

RESULTS: MULTI-SITE DESALINATION FOR RODRIGUES ISLAND

The project delivered five seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants, each designed for 1 ML/day, giving the project a combined designed capacity of 5 ML/day.

The plants were developed for five locations across Rodrigues Island as part of the public water supply scheme.

Aquasol's scope covered the project from process design through manufacture and supply, including the fabrication of plant components, high-pressure manifolds, plant layouts, engineering and shipment documentation.

The result was a coordinated multi-site desalination project designed to provide treated water through five dedicated seawater reverse osmosis plants.
